It's a great honor to be chosen. The sacrifice, given once every hundred years to the mountain's Guardian.
Naked, cold, perhaps frightened, you were left in the cave. The fires were extinguished, those delivering you left. You waited.
It may have been minutes, but it felt like hours, when you heard the rustling of scale against rock, and turned to see the Guardian behind you. Her eyes glowed in the darkness as she scrutinized you.
